In case you were not aware (as I wasn’t until fairly recently!) it’s time to vote for the 2011 Weblog Awards or Bloggies as they’re also known. I completely missed out on the nomination phase, and the early rounds, but now it’s down to the final round – the 5 candidates in each category having been selected.
Why am I telling you this? Well, one of my favourite bloggers, David Robertson, has made it into the final 5 in the Science Blog category. In just a week he’s gone from being stunned that he was even selected (Huh? The 11th Annual Weblog Awards), to going into full “politician mode” and canvassing for votes! Although he did take time to introduce the other blogs in his category (Meet the Bloggies: 2011 Best Science Blog Nominees) before telling his readers why they need to vote for him! (Help me win the 2011 Bloggie Award! - David, was putting a photograph of yourself in your bathing suit a conscience decision to attract the female vote?!)
I have been following David’s blog since I joined WordPress. He writes about Science and Nature (two topics I’m interested in) and he takes wonderful photographs. I think I first noticed him on the Freshly Pressed page (he’s been there 3 times that I’m aware of), but kept on reading his posts because he has such a passion for his topic and for Science Communication. Completely fresh and un-jaded. I’m not sure if that’s because he is young or whether that’s his natural Aussie exuberance bubbling out.
Even if you aren’t into Science, go and take a look at the 2011 Weblog Awards page, and see if your favourite blogger has made it to the finals. Voting closes on the 20th of February.
