Weekly Photo Challenge: Focus

For this week’s photo challenge on Focus, I’ve chosen a photograph of an African Wild Cat which was taken last week in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

This photograph was taken at quite a distance, so it proved to be a little tricky to keep the cat in focus instead of the background.

Hi Kathy! Things have been difficult this year, but I hope to get back to regular posting again. Have so many stories to tell and photos to show from our recent trip to Namibia. And of course I need to catch up on my blog reading too. :-)

Hello Lisa: so lovely to find a post from you :) ! Has the African Wild Cat evolved from a domestic cat gone feral or . . . ? Wonderful photo!

Hi Eha! Nice to get a comment from you. According to Wikipedia “The wildcat subspecies are estimated to have diverged 230,000 years ago. The ancestor of the African wildcat and the domestic cat is estimated to have diverged about 131,000 years ago.” So they have a common ancestor a very long time ago. Although they look like ordinary domestic cats, they can easily be distinguished by the dark heavy horizontal stripes on the front legs.

Hi Lisa, what a pleasant surprise to see a post from you. Went to namaqua last week and thought about that series of posts you did (last year i think). Hope you are well.

What a look that cat was giving you – definitely not a happy house-cat ‘hello human, do you happen to have a can of tuna in your backpack?’ look. ;-)

Welcome back from Namibia, dear Lisa. I hope you had a wonderful time there.
