The Bloggies: Have you voted yet?

In case you were not aware (as I wasn’t until fairly recently!) it’s time to vote for the 2011 Weblog Awards or Bloggies as they’re also known. I completely missed out on the nomination phase, and the early rounds, but now it’s down to the final round – the 5 candidates in each category having been selected.

Why am I telling you this? Well, one of my favourite bloggers, David Robertson, has made it into the final 5 in the Science Blog category. In just a week he’s gone from being stunned that he was even selected (Huh? The 11th Annual Weblog Awards), to going into full “politician mode” and canvassing for votes! Although he did take time to introduce the other blogs in his category (Meet the Bloggies: 2011 Best Science Blog Nominees) before telling his readers why they need to vote for him! (Help me win the 2011 Bloggie Award! – David, was putting a photograph of yourself in your bathing suit a conscience decision to attract the female vote?!)

I have been following David’s blog since I joined WordPress. He writes about Science and Nature (two topics I’m interested in) and he takes wonderful photographs. I think I first noticed him on the Freshly Pressed page (he’s been there 3 times that I’m aware of), but kept on reading his posts because he has such a passion for his topic and for Science Communication. Completely fresh and un-jaded. I’m not sure if that’s because he is young or whether that’s his natural Aussie exuberance bubbling out.

Even if you aren’t into Science, go and take a look at the 2011 Weblog Awards page, and see if your favourite blogger has made it to the finals. Voting closes on the 20th of February.

Thanks for pointing me in his direction – I just love science and I really like what this man says. I voted 🙂

I have voted for him and I have signed up. I have never heard of the blog awards.

I had a look at the travel blogs and only liked 1. I don’t like blogs that have advertising all over them. I won’t even look at them – too messy and confusing.

Some of the blog are commercial blogs, they’re not just doing it for fun like we are. I also wonder how their advertisers affect the opinions they express.

Thanks for the great writeup Lisa! Every vote really does count; as an independent blogger up against bigger blogs, I need to mobilise the hordes of people who blog like I do: for fun!

Thanks for sharing this. I’d never even heard of the Bloggies–guess that means I won’t be winning one.

I will check out David’s blog and vote, for sure! Next year is your turn, Lisa!

    Hugs from Haiti,
    Kathy

I knew about the Bloggies, but won’t be winning one any time soon! The Best Science Blog category is for people who write seriously about serious scientific issues. I merely dabble in comparison, and get side-tracked by a whole lot of non-scientific stuff.

My vote is in! Thanks for posting about the Weblog awards. Had no idea! Now I have a lot of blogs to check out. I know what I’m doing this afternoon. 🙂

The Bloggie site itself should win an award. Talk about a cool design!

I don’t know too many of the blogs in the other categories, but still have time to check them out. Yes, the Bloggie site is interesting – different to what one normally sees for this kind of thing. Even the URL (http://2011.bloggi.es/) is unique!:-)
