Can you guess who this eye belongs to? The distinct markings should give you a clue. Another clue: it’s not a zebra.
The eye above belongs to this Gemsbok (Oryx grazella). It’s a very large buck which is specifically adapted to desert life with very little water, and very high day-time temperatures.

What a beautiful, beautiful animal! You should have let us play ‘guessing games’ to show much we did not know about Africa and its fauna 🙂 ! Those fabulous horns!!
Eha, you probably would have enjoyed the “Caption This” series I had going at one stage. It consisted of funny wildlife photos from my archive, which I asked people to caption them. If you’re interested you can see them here: https://notesfromafrica.wordpress.com/caption-this-gallery/
I’ve never seen a Gemsbok before, so I learned something new! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
It’s a pleasure! Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment! 🙂
I thought the top photo looked like a camel’s mouth – I wouldn’t have guessed gemsbok. I’ve seen them before but not so close up.
It’s sometimes interesting to look at things close-up. There is so much detail we usually don’t notice.
