Chaos ensues when too many birds try and land on the same tree stump, at Grootkolk in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The last image shows all the birds leaving.

Definite chaos!
These are some of the busiest and noisiest birds I’ve come across. Very useful for letting one know if there is a predator or snake close by though.
Oh what fun photos! Living semi-rurally amongst a lot of trees I see this in a noisier fashion almost every day. We have huge flocks of large white sulphur-crested cockatoos, heavy and screeching, who all seem to want to land on the weaker top branches of many a eucalypt: oh the fights, and they also leave still arguing 🙂 ! Beautiful photo series . . .
Thanks Eha! These birds are sociable weaver birds and as the name implies they are a noisy bunch too! 🙂 If you want to see how they behave up close see this post: https://southerncape.wordpress.com/2011/10/13/frenzy-at-the-water-hole-includes-the-movie/
Ha, ha. A tree with birds for leaves. Wonderful!
Yes, you’re right! 🙂
Definite chaos! Do you know what species of bird this was?
They are sociable weaver birds which live in large colonies (see photos of huge nests here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sociable_weaver). Everything they do is very chaotic and noisy.
Oh, yes! I’ve read about them. They build incredible nests! Fascinating.
