Today has been a good day

Some of the beautiful roses given to me by my visitors earlier this week. They're the most unusual colour - a mix of red and orange that changes depending on the light. ©LB/notesfromafrica.wordpress.com

Today has been a really good day. A perfect, calm South African winter’s day which started off cold, but became sunny and mild later. It also marks the first day in 10 days (since I hurt my back)  that I have had no pain, and could go walking with Rosie (the dog) again. Which makes it an excellent day for her too!

It helped of course that a couple of days ago, when I was still feeling pretty miserable and the weather was miserable too, I had a visit from Estie (my sister-in-law), Cecilia (my niece) and their friend Mariaane. They were all in a happy, relaxed mood after a vacation spent on a farm in the Karoo, and their positive energy helped me perk up. Thank you Mariaane, Estie and Cecilia for brightening up my week – figuratively and literally!

SO glad to hear that! Hang in there…

I too am very pleased to hear that you are feeling better, Lisa. And I’m sure Rosie was over-the-moon with delight that you were walking *normally* again!

I loooove the colour of those roses – sometimes one finds golden-orange ones too, which I really like.

Thanks! Ah, Rosie was delighted to be taken for a long walk again. It’s really one of the highlights of her day.

You know I never liked bright colours until we moved into our current house. The main living area has terracotta floor tiles and the previous owners had painted the walls this orange colour (see wall behind roses – although it looks much darker in the photo than in reality because of the low light). Now I’ve really grown to love those orange-y-red colours.

Thank you! I’m surprise Lucy, our cat, hasn’t inspected them yet. She’s usually very curious about new flowers in the house.

Hi Lisa: I meant to tell you that I absolutely LOVE your new blog! Wow, it is so incredibly professional. It makes me realize that it is a talent designing a blog site. I need to spend some time reworking my sites as well. This is beautiful so thanks for sharing. As for your back, I hope it feels better soon! I’ve had neck and low back injuries and pain all my life and it really is terrible when it hurts and stops you from doing the things you love. I love to put a hot pack on it or take a hot bath. hope that helps and keep the posts coming! I really enjoy your writing. 🙂

Thank you! Well, I can’t take credit for designing the new theme, but it does take some time to find the one that is right for your content. As I’ve said in the comments section of another post, I am busy writing a post about what to look out for in themes and what functionality matters. So look out for that.

My back is doing a lot better. Still a little stiff, but not much pain. I’m continuing in my regime of hot packs and hot showers. Also found that helped me a lot. This is only the second time I’ve had a “back episode”. Can’t imagine what it must be like to have it often – and I have a really high pain threshold (due to chronic migraines). It’s the not being able to move an inch without triggering a wave of pain that really got me down.

So glad to hear you’re feeling better. Rosie will be so happy!

Have you read a book called The Book of Happenstance? It’s written by a South African writer Ingrid Winterbach. It was just published here and has gotten some positive reviews.

Thanks! Rosie is so delighted that I can walk with and play with her again. And very happy that I can’t do things like lift her into the bath – I saw that Reggie wasn’t looking to keen on getting wet! 😉

No, I have read “The Book of Happenstance”. Will have to put it on my reading list.
