Photo day: Macro photography

Yes, another photo day . . . As I get further into my “migraine season” you’re probably going to be seeing more of these. It will get more difficult for me to concentrate and write entertaining posts. Also, I am trying to develop my photographic skills, and feel compelled to do something with the better shots.

I have been very inspired by Jolene Hanson’s photographs of the little and ordinary things in life. She’s got a real talent for making everything look interesting and beautiful (CLICK HERE to check out her work). And since having contact with The Spider Club, my inner “bug person” has also been awoken. Hence, the macro photography.

Yesterday I was trying to take a photograph in the bathroom of a little jumping spider. I think that is what they are called. Well, it was a spider and it was jumping!  Although it was a very patient little spider – it posed for half an hour before getting bored and wandering off – I just couldn’t get a good shot. Whether it was the dim light in the bathroom, or just my lack of camera skills, I have very little to show for my efforts.

This week I’ve also been trying to take a good photo (I’d really be happy with just one) of the guinea fowl clan that has been visiting our garden lately. They just never stand still for long enough for me to focus though. I’ve ended up with a lot of  badly composed “action shots”. So I’ve decided to practise on the flowers in our garden which, unless the wind blows, are usually up for posing quietly for hours at a time. 🙂

So here is some of what is currently flowering in our garden.

I feel so honored to be mentioned in your blog, Lisa. 🙂 It’s good to know that something I love to do can inspire others.

It’s too bad your spider photos didn’t work out this time, but I do like the flower shots. Especially since it’s winter over here. I actually see a face in the third flower. The texture of the petals are very pretty and delicate.

I’m sorry you have to deal with the migraines. The silver lining is that you have decided to practice photography, and you might end up capturing some new and interesting things you never thought of before. When I was going through a difficult time this past summer, I was out with my camera all the time. Trying to find beauty in the world through the view finder has a magical way of erasing whatever troubles you are experiencing.

The petals of that flower are almost like tissue paper.

I find taking photographs very relaxing. I get completely engrossed in it. Probably how some guys feel about golf or fishing! 🙂

Beautiful, Lisa. Great shots. I hope your migraine season touches you only lightly.

Thank you. It was much easier than taking photos of a moving target! I am amazed how many of our pretty plants were lying dormant through the drought, just waiting for a little rain.

Stunning photos, Lisa! Truly! I hope you find at least a little migraine relief in the coming months; I know this can be a difficult month for you!

    Happy Holidays from Haiti,

Thank you. The gardens in Haiti must be lovely. Do you have a nice garden you can relax in, or does staying home mean you also have to stay indoors?
